I like to put candies and a little piece of paper in each day. The piece of paper this year will hold either a Christmas activity to do that day or an act of service that we can do for someone else. When Talia was really little, we made cards for family members and I put a person's name on the paper so that we would make a new card each day (making them all at once was too much).
This year I made a new advent calendar that we can use every year.
I'm so happy with the way that it turned out!
Earlier this year when I was shopping for supplies at Michaels for this Thanksgiving craft, Talia found a wooden Christmas tree-shaped advent with drawers. It was love at first sight- I really wanted it! So, I used my 40% off coupon and I bought it. I had paint on hand from the Thanksgiving craft and from another countdown craft that I did for Christmas (which I will eventually share here as well), and used those paint colours to paint it.
Here's what the advent calendar looked like before I painted it. Keep your eyes open at Michaels for one of these, if you like it- I think it's something they have yearly because I was able to google it and find some photos of the same one on a couple of blogs from previous years!
